Councillor Kieran Binchy has been working with local residents, Dublin City Council officials and NAMA to keep the area around Windmill Lane clean and clear of graffiti. Streets such as Creighton St., Hanover St West, Lime St. and the area around Sir John Rogerson’s Quay have seen graffiti spread form Windmill Lane. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that many of the buildings in the area are empty or underused, as they are in the control or management of NAMA or bank receivers.
Cllr. Kieran Binchy recently got Dublin City Council to spearhead a clean-up of the area, and a team of graffiti-removal specialists got to work. Cllr. Binchy has also liaised with the local GardaĆ in Pearse St station to ensure now that the area has been cleaned up that the Gardai mainitain a visible presence in the area to ensure that Graffiti artists cannot operate without fear of sanction or penalty.
