Greyhound Recycling Bag charge

At the February 2013 meeting of the South East Area Committee, Councillor Kieran Binchy tabled the following motion, which was passed unanimously. Although the Council do not have responsibility for waste collection under current legislation, Cllr. Binchy tabled the motion to communicate to Greyhound that the communities represented by Cllr. Binchy and his nine colleagues are outraged and disappointed by Greyhound’s unilateral decision to impose a charge (in the unlikely guise of a distribution charge) for the bags.

Motion from Councillor Kieran Binchy

That this Committee calls on Greyhound to reverse its decision to charge domestic customers for its recycling bag, thereby introducing a significant charge to customers for recycling, which flies in the face of all sensible environmental policy, and also calls on the company to increase the availability of its tags for normal waste as it is unfair to expect people, especially the elderly, to have to walk significant distances to buy tags.
